MOVE: The Modern Cut of Geoffrey Beene
On view February 1 – July 23, 2023
MOVE: The Modern Cut of Geoffrey Beene offers a rare and intimate view into the work and career of one of the most awarded fashion designers in U.S. history. At his core, Beene was a fashion rebel who ignored trends, instead preferring to design garments that began as geometric shapes and evolved into silhouettes that moved naturally with the human form. His intuitive understanding of the body informed fashions that were unparalleled in their combination of luxury, thoughtful design, and comfort.
MOVE: The Modern Cut of Geoffrey Beene showcases dresses, jackets, and more from the Museum’s Geoffrey Beene Archive, including a large selection of custom-made designs donated to Phoenix Art Museum in 2019 by Patsy Tarr. The exhibition also features materials and ephemera from the designer’s personal archive on loan from Authentic Brands Group, who today owns and manages the Geoffrey Beene trademark. These objects, including photographs, contact sheets, and press kits, are on view publicly for the first time and provide an intimate view into Beene’s distinct design process and forward-thinking vision for women’s clothing.

En exhibición desde el 1º de febrero hasta el 23 de julio del 2023
EN MOVIMIENTO: El corte moderno de Geoffrey Beene ofrece una íntima y peculiar vista a la obra y carrera del diseñador más galardonado en la historia de los Estados Unidos. En esencia, Beene era un rebelde de la moda que ignoraba las tendencias y prefería diseñar prendas que comenzaban como formas geométricas y evolucionaban hacia siluetas que se movían naturalmente con la forma humana. Su entendimiento intuitivo del cuerpo informó modas que no tenían paralelo en su combinación de lujo, diseño inteligente y comodidad.
EN MOVIMIENTO: El corte moderno de Geoffrey Beene exhibe vestidos, chaquetas y más del Archivo Geoffrey Beene del Museo, incluyendo una gran selección de diseños personalizados donados al Museo de Arte de Phoenix en el 2019 por Patsy Tarr. La exposición también presenta materiales efímeros del archivo personal del diseñador prestados por Authentic Brands Group, que hoy es propietario y administrador de la marca comercial Geoffrey Beene.
