Tattoos have become an accepted and widespread form of self-expression in our culture. Tattoo flash books are compendiums of a particular artist’s designs. Given the proliferation of this artistic practice, the Lemon Library has a small, but growing collection of tattoo flash books and reference guides. Join librarian Jesse Lopez and a panel of passionate local Arizona tattoo artists for a discussion about tattoos, flash books, and the history and present state of tattooing.
About the Panel
Cathy Chung (@misscathytattoo) is the owner of Kowloon Tattoo on Grand Ave. She is from Hong Kong and practices traditional Hong Kong Style tattooing, a bold and bright fusion of eastern and western styles.
Wyatt Howland (@wyatthowlandart) is co-owner of Sparrow’s Nest in Phoenix and makes American Folk tattoos with cowboy and gallows humor.
Samuel Orozco (@b0rn2loose) is an artist at BLX Tattoo Shop in Tucson. Sammy’s tattoo style is a unique mix of Chicano and American Traditional styles that originated here in the Sonoran Desert.
This program aims to celebrate local artists by engaging diverse audiences, while highlighting the Lemon Library’s unique collection.
This program is intended for audiences 18 years and older.
