Juan Francisco Elso merged multiple cultural and aesthetic traditions during his artistic career, an approach to art making that continues to inform the creative work of many artists today. Experience a roundtable discussion about polycultural identity in the making of the contemporary Americas.
About the Speakers:
Estrella Esquilín is a visual artist based in Phoenix, Arizona. Formally trained as a printmaker, Esquilín creates artwork that explores the use of building materials, constructed spaces, movement, abstracted blueprints, text, collage, animation, and place-centering experiences. She is curious about how built and natural environments impact social experiences. Esquilín has exhibited and produced collaborative projects in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Mexico. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2015 from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2007 from Kansas City Art Institute.
Estephania González is an Arizona-based multimedia artist from the Midwest. Using video, animation, installation, and performance, she explores concepts of space-time, cosmologies, and identity. González explores the complexities of identity politics and their relation to the physical and psychological borderlands. This examination lays the foundation for her work, from which she creates video narratives that reflect upon and take into consideration a contemporary understanding of the human condition through her lens as a Mexican-American woman.
Anna Flores is a border-dwelling poet and writer born in Nogales, Arizona. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Arizona State University, where she currently teaches English composition and poetry. She has received numerous awards, including the 2021 Swarthout Award in Writing, a 2021 Center for Imagination in the Borderlands Creative Research Fellowship, and a 2020 Mabelle A. Lyon Poetry Award.

Acerca de las oradoras:
Estrella Esquilín es una artista visual radicada en Phoenix, Arizona. Formada formalmente como grabadora, Esquilín crea obras de arte que exploran el uso de materiales de construcción, espacios construidos, movimiento, planos abstractos, texto, collage, animación y experiencias centradas en el lugar. Su curiosidad se centra en cómo los entornos naturales y construidos impactan las experiencias sociales. Esquilín ha exhibido y producido proyectos colaborativos en Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico y México. Obtuvo una maestría en arte en el 2015 de Arizona State University y una licenciatura en arte en el 2007 de Kansas City Art Institute.
Estephania González es una artista multimedial del Medio Oeste de los Estados Unidos radicada en Arizona. Usando video, animación, instalación y performance, explora conceptos de espacio-tiempo, cosmologías e identidad. González explora las complejidades de las políticas de identidad y su relación con las fronteras físicas y psicológicas. Este examen sienta las bases de su obra, a partir del cual crea narrativas en video que reflexionan y toman en consideración una comprensión contemporánea de la condición humana a través de su lente como mujer mexicoamericana.
Anna Flores es una poeta y escritora fronteriza nacida en Nogales, Arizona. Tiene una maestría en arte y escritura creativa de Arizona State University, donde actualmente enseña escritura en idioma inglés y poesía.
